Not sure whether to put this in tech or music but either way. I've been looking around for an affordable portable keyboard to learn piano on and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or has any specific models that they use and like. Any other resources or advice would be great. Most I am willing to spend is around 220.

Look for a sturdy keyboard with midi capabilities.
If you have midi, then you won't need to worry about the sounds, since you'll have access to a library of them on your computer.
You can use this guide to help your purchase.

i bought a microkorg and its pretty cool and i love making and changing the sounds but it's small and has wierd keys so dont buy it if you want to learn to play

i'd grab a casio or yamaha from a music store with as few features as possible

Anything interesting I can do with a spare computer that isn't file severing/routing/folding/firewalling?

I think it has a E6400 core 2 duo in it so it's still pretty quality.

I just ordered an Asus EeePC 1015PED.
It has android and win7 starter preinstalled.

What OS should I get?
I was thinking about netbook ubuntu.

just use win7
>> ID: b9c274 0 No. 7498

I don't have any money left, and illegal windows copies usually are even more trouble some than win7 starter.

I now also know some of the shortcomings of starter, but it seems to do the job so far.

Just a heads up, Windows 7 Starter is ONLY 32 Bit, and you can only install 2 GB of Ram. So, if you plan on putting more ram in that EeePC, download a torrent of XP or something.

I know. thx for the reminder though.

Anyways I'll stick with 7s for now it does what is necessary and I can access the win7 home network so I can stream shows and movies and such from the computer room to my room.

thanks for your replies.

I'm looking to buy a laptop and would like some recommendations or advice on what to look for.

Other than work and general internet stuff I'd like to use it for watching tv shows/movies and listening to music. If it can do all of that ok I'll be satisfied. Weight is not an issue and the size doesn't matter too much either, as long as it isn't tiny. My budget is about £400, which isn't ideal but it's all I can afford atm.

This one looks like what I'm after but I can't really tell if it's actually decent or not.

I recently had to wipe my hard drive thanks to the geniuses at my school's IT department who forced me to install Symantec to get online (install failed, uninstall fucked up some core windows stuff somehow, lot of bullshit, had to format). Along with losing some of my programs, I lost a tweak I came across that automatically ran any executable as Administrator without having to Shift+Click on it. I've been getting annoyed at having to constantly do this to install drivers, programs etc. and having it occur automatically would make everything happen a lot easier.

Is there a registry value I could change, or a program to run, or something to fix that? All my google searches bring up is for per application administrator rights or disabling UAC which I already did.

Also any essential tweaks you can suggest would be nice.

you are a moron and i cant wait until this "fuck[s] up some core windows stuff somehow" again which is bound to happen eventually if you allow every program access to everything automatically.

ccleaner and steam as a couple programs off my head do that all the time though and I've never clicked 'run as admin'

this was the only solution I could find actually, and I didn't really want to do it on a per application basis but I guess it's the only solution.

I mean I'm not a retarded computer user like you guys are implying, I don't download cracks and keygens and shit that could possibly fuck up my computer and if I did I'd probably do it in a sandbox or something. Yeah in hindsight normally running everything as admin is dumb but I've never had problems in the past and I have a good firewall and noscript/adblock, plus I don't download shit unless I'm absolutely sure it's safe so I figured that I wouldn't have problems in the future, especially because every single application I run (other than stuff like notepad++ or something) usually needs to be in admin mode so I figured why not cut out the middle step?

here's a great idea
how about keyboards not have a bottom, as in the underside is just a plastic net, only existing where actually needed
that way all the crap that falls between keys just falls onto the table underneath

My computer has been running slowly lately, and my co-worker informed me that I should defragment the hard disk, and that if I searched my computer for `defragment` I would find the application. I have had no such luck finding it, do I have a corrupted installation?
Computer is a new 17-inch: 2.2 GHz MacBook Pro, quad-core.

Thank you in advance.
