actually by having sports tied into something else, more people saw the sports threads because they didn't have to browse a completely separate board just to read them. if someone visited /man/ but was mostly into guns and manliness, but also saw a thread about the world series, they might give an opinion on the teams playing and join in for a bit. the problem we would have with /sports/ is the same we had with /news/: whenever we make /n/, people visit for a week or two then no one bothers. /news/ is out of the way and by having a concentrated board, more people don't post in it as opposed to a board so general that it's a smorgasbord of discussions.
