Firebrand = 1-combo wonder
Ghost Rider = 1-combo wonder BUT some bitchin-safe range
Strider = only good if he eats up all of the meter
Dr. Strange = Magneto 2
Hawkeye = Taskmaster 2
Nemesis = Hulk 2

Dr. Strange does look pretty beastly so far, and Ghost Rider doesn't 'look' it, but with dat range...

Strange looks like he doesn't do all that great damage. And he's not going to be another Magnus; he completes the Storm/Mag trinity as the most defensive of the versatile humanoid Marvel flyers.

His damage potential won't really be revealed until the game is out and people have time to explore his combos. While the info coming out of gamescom has said he isn't looking as powerful as he looked at first, I still think he'll be a very strong character.

His teleport honestly looks like one of the best in the game. Combine that with his projectiles and he'll be mixing people up all day.

It looks like Strange won't have an 8 way air dash, but his other super "Rings of Ragador" is confirmed to be a projectile counter. It also looks like his level 3 has more range than I thought it would.

I can't say much about Nemesis other than he seems to hit really hard and his playstyle focuses on ground and wall bounces.

Dr. Strange is going to be fucking amazing

In particular his counter-teleport is going to demolish Ghost Rider, any time he tries to spam his full-screen chain you can counter on reaction and fuck him up. That's going to be an incredibly bad matchup.

Iron Fist looks like he'll be a decent character, but I think my favorite part about him right now is his animations and fighting style. He's like Shuma-Gorath where he's fun just to look at (OTG dropkick aw hell yeah).

So far I haven't been disappointed by any of these new characters, they all look fun to play as (to some degree).

Iron Fist is looking pretty Fei. He's got long range ways in, he makes Bruce Lee noises, he's so damn fast.


Vergil is looking like the more strategically technical Dante. Faster stand A and jump S by the looks of things, more teleports, a lower combo damage and priority than Dante, but more balanced overall. His assists, while some remain unreleased, they seem much worse than Dante's. Sword Super looks like a mini Oroboros. Godlike.

Capcom really did a great job on executing the idea of having Phoenix fight without actually fighting.

As enjoyable as that trailer was, I think I'm more excited for Nova than any of the other new characters save for maybe Rocket.

I'm a fan of the Phoenix Wright games and I have to say they've made an incredibly faithful adaptation for UMvC3. They really got him spot on with his move set and different stances/modes, not to mention anybody who gets hit by his level 3 acts like any character in the PW games when they're found guilty.

As for Nova, I hardly know anything about him as a character, but with his strength and amount of moves that cause bouncing he looks like a powerhouse. I definitely want to try him out.

I know the same thing is happening to Dr. Doom with the "secret tech", but Doom's also receiving buffs and he was already a good character. But hey, maybe Jill has some untapped power that nobody's discovered because she requires high execution.

Jill has amazing combo potential on point; but at the end of the day she's just an inferior Wesker. And even if there IS some kind of hidden potential within Jill then it would be better to leave her be until it's discovered; not outright nerf her ability.

Also, does anyone else think Nova's a bit...unoriginal?

I heard about his red bar mechanic which is interesting; but all his moves are just ripoffs of other character's moves.

If I recall, wasn't Magneto in MvC2 considered low tier for years until someone figured out a glitch or something? I dunno, I never played it, but perhaps Capcom saw this one coming and decided to head it off. I mean yeah, XF3 Mad Beast Jill is by far the fastest character in the entire game, and theoretically it's just a matter of time until someone learns how to take advantage of it. Apparently Capcom thinks it would be enough of an advantage to completely unbalance the game.

i think out of all those changes, captain america's is making me the most excited. everybody who's played him in UMvC3 has said that he's now incredibly viable, and having the L shield slash attack and assist OTG now just adds to his usefulness.

i can't wait for the official change log for the capcom characters. i want to see if hsien-ko and viewtiful joe get some decent buffs, since hardly anybody plays them i haven't heard much about them.

it looks like viewtiful joe got some decent buffs, and tron can "cancel after throwing the rocks in bandit boulder", so does this mean she can extend her own combos with her OTG cr.H and bandit boulder now? the only thing cr.H can combo into is the bandit boulder, and in vanilla she can't do anything else after the boulder.

I'm loving Hawkeye right now, while the damage from most of his combos is lower than most characters, I feel he's more about hitting/chipping people to death with his arrows. Not to mention his Gimlet Hyper is FANTASTIC for punishing. The only problem I'm having with him right now is that his magic series is slightly different than most characters (you can't combo s.H into s.S) and I'm having trouble getting used to his corner OTG combo. You have to dash back, do QCB+L~L/M quickly enough to hit.

Nova's really cool too, but the timing for a j.S/throw into Centurion Rush L into your combo is a bit strict.

Yeah, I've been starting to get the hang of him now and I'm not having as much difficulty with his timing. The one thing I found awkward about his magic series at first was the delay from his j.S, I usually delay that on other characters so I can get to the ground quicker and follow up with more hits (like Taskmaster and Spencer), but with Nova you have to get that out as soon as possible or else you'll drop the combo. Thankfully Nova gets to the ground pretty quickly so you can follow it up with Nova Slam or Centurion Rush.

Also, Phoenix Wright's a bit fun once you get used to him. His normals are definitely bad, but I've caught plenty of people trying to hit me while I have the Maya Shield out, so from there I can hit them just fine. Once you get Turnabout mode he's ridiculous.

All in all, this feels like the most unchanged update release I've ever played.

Then someone jumps and ironfist gets really sad.

Gotta rely entirely on lockdown with him which has a huge payoff but still, who wants to put up with that. He even has good options to beat advance guard alone but he still doesn't do anything to airborne targets, which limits assists too.

If you watched NEC, you could probably tell just how bad Ultimate is. Wesker is essential to every team's success, so he has become worse than Phoenix in a way. X-Factor and Wolverine are still big problems as well, so the only things that really got nerfed were Phoenix and invincible assists.

Having the invincible assists was the only good reward for turnabout. The fingers are pretty good just because how obnoxious they are but you cant mixup with them. When you could sit on phoenix's level 3 with invuln assists he made your team deadly as fuck and now he's half that now.

Honestly it probably wasn't good to have phoenix roam around with only near guaranteed win matchups and unwinnable matchups but making him fairly useless in general probably wasn't the best answer.

A few people from B (tasky and pheonix at least) should be moved up, and C and B tier should be combined. Even though the higher tiers are pretty dumb a lot of the lower guys compete just fine, and really aren't better enough then each other to make them a tier lower.

Can't he cancel his normals into his sword ring super even when blocked? Which not only puts him in safe position, it stops the enemy from moving in?

His assists DO suck, though. Meter hogging only applies to his level 3 set up, otherwise, he's as much of a meter hog as Wesker.

I never though he was as broken as most people said, but I never though he was C tier bad.

Yeah he can, but having to use a whole meter to be safe whereas dante just needs to hit att + s which also puts him on the offensive. His rapid slash assist is actually quite good however, especially when he's in devil trigger.
