Now this is a REAL fighting game.

You little pansy faggots can go back to your Super Gay Pansies 4.

I have always hated mortal kombat, except when I was a kid and thought the gore was cool.

This actually looks fun.

My prediction is that it will be solid overall but be terribly balanced and probably have a half dozen game breaking infinites that ruin online play.

by the looks of things they still have dial-a-combos.

not to mention the 3d mk's are notorious for forcing players to input their combo string before the combo is even completed. that makes for really wonky and retarded fighting.

and 12ampage already brought up the infs and stellar character balance bound to be involved.

it looks like ass.
>> ID: 65dc34 0 No. 1274
everyone prefers hadouken spam over dial-a-combo gore
>> ID: 79b1cd 0 No. 1275
in the spirit of bad assumptions and generalizations i think it's safe to say everyone prefers a super bar as opposed to epically long combos
>> ID: 6e1a96 0 No. 1277
>>1275

I may be in the minority here, but I lean to being in favor of dial a combos. This is probably just because I can't do combos in SF4 for shit. fuck 1-3 frame links, I can't do them to save my life.
>> ID: df63ca 0 No. 1278
so are dial A combos the ones where you input the entire combo before your character has finished the first 2 hits?

the dial-a-combo system makes combat more turn based and rigid than adaptive.

if you like that sort of thing that's fine but it really doesn't seem like fun after you've learned like every combo. cause then it's more like you're only going to use one or two combos per situation which i think, means you are limiting your thought process during the match which is never fun in my opinion.

i don't have a problem with dial combos inherently;they just make combat less fluid and more compartmentalized
>> ID: 6e1a96 0 No. 1285
>>1282

That's the down side, yeah. I still enjoy Street fighter's system more, but trying to learn links is really crushing my want to play. I spent 45~ minutes last week trying to do lp>mp and ended up ragequitting and haven't played again since.
>> ID: 983c3e 0 No. 1286
>>1285
depending on who you play you might not have to do links
>> ID: 6e1a96 0 No. 1287
>>1286

I've been playing Vega and pretending it's third strike along with Guile and it isn't that bad not being able to link. I just wouldn't mind being able to play other characters for fun, but it kind of sucks when you can't really hit confirm anything but jump ins.

I've been meaning to learn Abel but haven't gotten around to it.
>> ID: e916e3 0 No. 1291

plinking might help you to nail links more consistently.

its really useful for guile and its helped me alot.
>> ID: 6e1a96 0 No. 1294
>>1291

That's what I was trying to learn but I haven't been able to get it yet. I can't figure out the timing.
>> ID: 325734 0 No. 1296
  >>1294
Listen to the sound of these buttons. You want to hit the stronger button first and immediately hit the weaker one, so it sounds almost like one button press with a slight echo. It might take a while to learn, but I got it after a short while and I was finally able to venture out to other characters.

Just try it out in training mode and try to get the inputs that show in the guile video.
>> ID: 6e1a96 0 No. 1298
>>1296

I tried again today and I am stuck once more. I am doing the input correctly as seen in the video in >>1291

However, a third lp is coming out instead of the mp. Any idea what I am doing wrong?
>> ID: 3fbb3f 0 No. 1299
>>1298
you're doing it too fast. plinking doesnt work too great if you are using buttons that chain into each other (like lp, lp)
do it a few frames later
>> ID: a0f4bb 0 No. 1300
>>1298

There are two possibilities here. I'm not really familiar with Guile, so I don't know which it might be.

If you are getting cr.LP instead of cr.MP, that could mean you're hitting LP first when you hit both buttons, instead of MP first when you hit both buttons.

If this is the mistake you're making, the input display would look like this:

LP|MP
LP

in which case, you should try to hit MP slightly before you hold the second button.

Alternately, if you get this:

LP|MP
MP

(which is the correct input) and cr.LP is still coming out, then that means you're doing the input too early. In that case, the reason cr.LP is coming out is because cr.LP chains into itself. What is happening is, you're putting in the LP|MP input while cr.LP is still recovering, and since cr.MP doesn't chain from cr.LP, cr.LP comes out instead. That doesn't mean you shouldn't plink, the only difference here is that if you plink too early, you get an extra cr.LP instead of nothing coming out at all like it would be if you had just hit MP.
>> ID: 6e1a96 0 No. 1301
>>1299
>>1300

Thanks for the advice. I was hitting it too fast. Provided I still don't have the timing down and my accuracy sucks but at least I can do it 25% of the time now. Still can't get the sonic boom out though.
>> ID: 468636 0 No. 1302
>>1301
hitting it too fast has to do with option selects

the mp has priority over the lp, but if you hit it too fast, the game will make a third lp come out instead because the animation for the second lp wasnt fully finished.

i just got that guile trail today though, the c.lk>c.lp>c.mp>hp sonicboom
plinking helps alot.

as soon as you begin hitting the c.mp, push the joystick forward and do the sonicboom
>> ID: 2bd829 0 No. 1304

you're not plinking correctly
>> ID: 2bd829 0 No. 1306
>>1305
sometimes I do, and it has to do with the timing I think, if I do it too early the mp comes out. why would that happen though I don't think it's a target combo or anything

>>1306
you're not plinking correctly
>> ID: a0f4bb 0 No. 1332
>>1306

See >>1300

If you're getting MP from a LK -> HP link, then you're doing the plinking wrong because MP doesn't chain from LK. In that case the input display will probably show:

MP|HP
MP

where you want it to say

MP|HP
HP

>Mortal Kombat borrows a feature from other series, like Street Fighter, adding powered-up EX-style moves with a new meter. That meter, at the bottom of the screen, fills as players brutally smack each other around. Not unlike the Pro Moves of Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe, those powered up moves make attacks more deadly, harder to avoid. To pull them off, players must pull off a special move, like a fireball, plus tap the block button.

>Those super meter moves eventually add up to a brutal combo move now known as an "X-ray Move." If it connects, the X-ray Move will lead to. a sequence of uppercuts, groin punches and elbows to the back. The scene desaturates, and the camera zooms in to show internal organs bleeding, bones being shattered and blood and teeth flying.

>There's also a new Tag Team mode coming to Mortal Kombat, similar in style to King of Fighters and Capcom's Vs. titles. Players can tag in allies one of three ways, with a simple swap, an attack swap or a special attack swap. The last swap technique in that list drains the player's Super Meter one bar, so it can't be spammed.

On the topic of learning fighting games, is it just me or does street fighter 4 have an unnatural skill curve. Third strike was considered a hard fighting game but needing to be able to perform 1 frame links for even block strings seems a little excessive.

>> ID: 6e1a96 2 No. 1414

I wouldn't say it's too hard, just not fun. I'd rather learn my character's move set and a few combos and play matches and slowly get better rather than having to sit in training mode by yourself for hours because you need to learn how to hit a button with a window of 1/30th of a second with plinking.

I'd just rather spend my time playing matches and having fun instead of being in training mode for hours with sore fingertips.

I think it's because
A) The closest part of sub's foot was behind a sand hill thing so it looks like it doesn't stick out as far as it does and
B) They probably extend the hitbox out as far as the animation unlike most other games, which usually pull it back a little. Probably for that very reason.

After watching this, I don't know how I feel about the game. On one hand, it's amusing to see all the old moves and characters in a new engine and it looks faithful to the original MK Trilogy. On the other, well, it lacks the fluidity that SFIV and MvC3 have. There's a lot of awkwardness in the animations that makes it displeasing to watch, which admittedly probably won't be that much of a problem when playing it.
