i believe they changed the budget and messed up the art style, the voice acting sucked at times, and there were fewer animation cells. the main complaint is that dexter's original voice actor, Christine Cavanaugh, was replaced with Candi Milo, and because Gene Tartovsky, Butch Hartman and Seth MacFarlane were working on Clone Wars, Fairly Oddparents and Family Guy (respectively), so the actual people who made the show what it was were gone.

there are a few gems after the original 52, though, but a lot of it is just shit. i'm partial to episode 55 (the granddaddy of all inventions is one of my personal favorite Dexter skits), episode 58-59, episode 62, and episode 65.

generally though, you're better off regarding the movie as the end of the show.

If you actually look at the pilot episode you see how much they tweeked with it to make it more visually appealing. Hell, they even redid the pilot which was really cool to watch.

I remember when it was Oh Yeah! Cartoons. good times.

I liked Chalkzone but after the first few seasons it went down the tube. I stopped watching after they had the 'Lime in the Coconut' episode.

The movie offers a true ending to the series, though it felt like a little bit rushed on the end where everyone pulls a 180 on their feelings. I mean aside from that it was absolute gold. Also you finally get to meet Eddy's Brother.
